The Whimsy of The Curly Willow

--

The challenge of fitting a #vssdaily poem into one tweet is something I don’t often try, but the word for 15 Oct is one that’s near to my heart: #Willow. The one in our front yard was planted 20 years ago, when I had my first child. It grew with him. My kids climbed it. And from its growth, we learned together about the life cycle of the Mourning Cloak butterfly, which loves the taste of the willow tree’s leaves. Here’s my tweet.

In curly #willow whimsy
Branches spiral round &
Thin leaves curl down
While swarms of spikey creepy crawlers,
As the tree grows taller,
Hatch in bunchy mounds
& thrive on curly’s growth surge
Til their exos hit the ground
& Mourning Cloaks emerge
In curly willow whimsy.

Thank you for reading!
